Just rediscovered Apocalyptica. Here's one of the most solemn-yet-intense songs I've ever heard.

Only yesterday did I find out they did all of their stuff with cellos. Blew my damn mind. I thought they were just another guitar metal band with lots of cello-heavy intros and outtros like Metallica likes to do.
It's a really unique sound if you know what you're hearing, ha.

I love Farewell. Especially that final minute. So much feels. Their songs "Conclusion" and "Epilogue" are similar in emotion, though not quite as intense.
As you can probably tell, I'm a total Apocalyptica-head (have the full discography, saw them live, etc). If you want to get into them I suggest starting with their Reflections album, which both the above songs are from. It was their fourth album and to me it marks the point where they found their pre-commercial sound. Worlds Collide and 7th Symphony, where they transitioned to having vocals on most of their songs, are awesome and I adore them just as much, but it's a different kind of awesome. I like diving back into their obscure instrumental stuff as well as their big stuff.
After that you can either go the direction of Worlds Collide ("SOS" with Lacuna Coil's Cristina Scabbia, "Helden" with Rammstein's Til Linderman, and "Grace" with Japanese guitarist Tomoyasu Hotei are particularly awesome), or their self-titled album for more of their "pre-global" stuff.
Oh, also check out " Hope Volume 2, " because for whatever reason the Volume 2 version (the version with lyrics) was never put out as part of a full album and is therefore often overlooked. But it's properly good. Music video's pretty great too.
ETA: Fuck you, Kinja and your "post save fail" B.S.

SOS is fantastic. One thing I've noticed about Farewell is how important it is to have a really good sound system to listen to it on. Half of the song is really low frequency and most speakers I've listened to it on don't do it justice at all.

Very true, which made me sad when I tried to use the end of Farewell as a ringtone. Just didn't work.
